About the event

Discover the history of the newly-opened Granger Wetlands from the perspective of both the park district and Granger Historical Society. The day will begin (8 to 11am) with talented Plein Air painters capturing the beauty of the property on canvas. (You may also bring your own art supplies and join them!) Beginning between 1:00 and 2:45, meet costumed re-enactors portraying former owners of the property that is now the wetlands. In addition, park naturalists will teach you about the wetland wildlife then and now. Beginning at 1:00, at the historical society, you can meet Greg Snowden, a wetlands ecologist who will explain the process of creating the wetlands, and he will also lead a hike at the park at 3:15. Granger Historical Society will have artifacts from the property on display including a breaking cart which was used long ago to train race horses for the race track located on the Granger Wetlands property. Parking is limited at the wetlands, so a park van will shuttle you to and from Granger Church parking lot, located next to the historical society. Light refreshments will be served by park volunteers. FREE, and great for all ages!
